Over 700 Armed Men Deployed For Enugu Re-run Election

The Enugu State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Dr. Chukwuemeka Joseph Chukwu, has said that about 700 armed security men have been deployed to ensure adequate security during and after the re-run elections billed for tomorrow, Saturday.

Chukwu disclosed while addressing newsmen on the preparedness of the Commission for the elections on Friday.
He said that the BVAS for the elections are fully charged while 30 RAs were deployed to man the BVAS, pointing out that about 90% of the Permanent Voters Card, PVC, have been collected by the prospect Voters for the exercise.

Chukwu also said that sensitive materials and non-sensitive materials have been distributed to the local governments’ concerned.
“For us as a Commission, we are ready to conduct the elections.  The sensitive materials arrived around January 28, 2024 and the non-sensitive materials arrived earlier. As at yesterday, all the sensitive materials have been sent respective areas,” he said.

According to the REC, they made arrangements with transport unions to ensure men and materials are delivered at the polling units during the elections.
He explained that re-run elections will take place at  Igbo-Eze North and Udenu Federal Constituencies with 165 polling booths, while election will take place at Enugu South local government area for the House of Assembly election.
