ADC May Witness Mass Defection If Atiku Secures Ticket — Baba-Ahmed

 

Former presidential adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may face serious internal crisis if  Atiku Abubakar secures the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed said Atiku is well positioned to win the ADC ticket once the party holds its national convention. However, he warned that such an outcome would likely trigger an exodus of disgruntled aspirants and supporters, as many influential figures in the party are also eyeing the ticket.

He noted that the ADC currently hosts several high-profile politicians whose ambitions are bound to clash during primaries. Baba-Ahmed also questioned Peter Obi’s approach, suggesting Obi is more used to being adopted as a consensus candidate rather than competing in open party conventions.

According to him, Obi’s expectation of flying the party’s flag without a competitive process could further heighten tensions within the ADC. Baba-Ahmed concluded that the party would likely “bleed” after its convention if Atiku emerges as the flag bearer.
